Ten On Tuesday. National Animal Advocacy Day, Awkward and mistranslations.

Hallo meine Lieben,

happy Tuesday! How is your week going? I really hope that everything is fine!
For me, it's time for another Ten On Tuesday. You can link up here.

1. I have so many shows piled up that I need to watch. I am way behind and I think I might have to stay up a couple of nights to catch up with all of them. On the other hand, it is good to know that I am not running out of entertainment. There are also books, magazines, crafts...

2. I really really really feel like going shopping for spring clothes.

3. Yesterday I found out that "Awkward" started again and I completely missed that. I have no idea how that's possible but I need to catch up. Well, there are only 3 episodes to catch up with so it shouldn't be a big problem. I missed Sadie.

4. Seriously, what is wrong with this country? Animal crush videos are protected by the first amendment? Recording the torture and murder of animals is protected as free speech? At least that is what a stupid idiot judge thinks. There is an Animal Crush Video Prohibition Act but I guess some judges are too stupid and ignorant to see that. You can read about the whole case here.

5. By the way: today is National Animal Advocacy Day. So please speak up for the animals. They need our voice. For example you can support and sign some very important petitions here. It only takes a minute to sign and it can make a difference.

6. Tonight I want to cook my favorite soup. Red lentil soup with coconut milk and chili. I posted that recipe a year ago. It's so delicious and easy to make.

7. Do you know what's totally weird for a German? When you listen to an English speaking song but it sounds like something totally different in German. For example: The song "Girls just want to have fun by Cyndi Lauper. At some point she sings "the phone rings" but the way she sings it, it could also be "da vorne links" (over there on the left) in German.  So funny. I guess only when you are German. Do these things ever happen to you or only to me?

8. Another example: Bad by Michael Jackson. He sings "The word is out" but it could also be "Du blöde Sau" (You stupid pig).
Pigs are very very smart by the way.

9. Grumpy Cat is always right.

10.  And again.

Have a wonderful Tuesday!

Drunk History, Save The Frogs Day and horseradish.

Hallo meine Lieben,

happy Save The Frogs Day to everybody! If you see a frog today, please be even nicer than you usually would. It is their day. You can read about this special day here and about Henri, the toad I saved from the road here.

A couple of days ago David introduced me to some fantastic videos called "Drunk History". People get drunk, tell you about some important historical events and famous actors (Ryan Gosling, Jack Black, Michael Cera...) act it out.
It is really hilarious and I would definitely recommend checking them out. The girl in the following video gets pretty emotional, other people just throw up and spill their drinks.
This is my favorite video so far.

Do you have any food addictions right now? I think I am not the only one with these addictions, they come and go but usually stick for a while and come back after months.
Right now it is horseradish. I pretty much eat horseradish with everything right now. Well, not with candy or anything like that but I eat it on my bread, in my salad dressing, in a pasta sauce...I can't get enough of it and I wonder how long it will last.
Do you like horseradish? What are your food addictions?

One thing I learned yesterday and did not know before: You can eat the whole kiwi with the peel. Shocking news. Did you know that? I did not but had to try it out immediately and I have to say: I like it a lot. It tastes delicious plus you don't have to do all the work to peel the kiwis. I am a believer in eating kiwi peel now.

Have a wonderful weekend, lovelies!

Items I splurge on.

Hallo meine Lieben,

happy Thursday! I hope you are all doing great! It's time for another round of Random Thursday.

The girls picked another awesome topic this week.

I have to say that right now I am under a strict spending ban so I only buy the things that are really necessary. But in general I have to say that it is lots of fun to splurge on things once in a while. I don't throw away my money but it is nice to treat yourself with a little something from time to time. And when I do that, I usually spend my money on the following things.

books.

I guess it is no surprise that I love to read. When a new book of one of my favorite writers comes out then I have to go to the book store and get it. I can't wait for the paperback. No chance.

beauty products.

It's fun to treat myself with a nail polish, a lipstick, an eye shadow palette once in a while. I love to discover new beauty products and every time I go to a store I want to look around a bit and see what's new. I also love to read beauty blogs.  My products have to be cruelty free, please.

fashion.

Fashion blogs, fashion magazines....I enjoy all of them. I probably have too many shoes but you can always find a shoe that you don't have in your collection yet. I love to go window shopping and look around in my favorite stores. And when I find something  that I love then it is hard to resist.

magazines.

I love all kinds of magazines. No matter if it is about fashion, science, DIY, home decoration, politics, entertainment, gossip....for me spending time with a magazine is time to relax.

food.

It's so much fun to try out new recipes, cook books are awesome. I usually don't follow recipes and just try out things that come into my mind but cook books are a great source for inspiration. And when I found a new vegan product in the supermarket that looks delicious then I just can't resist. We also love to go to restaurants. I usually don't order the same meal twice because I want to discover something new every time I go.

movie tickets.

We watch a lot of shows and movies at home but once in a while we love to go and see the movies on a big screen. It is a completely different experience and always so much fun. Except of the freezing temperatures in American movie theaters. I always have to bring something warm to wear.

concert tickets.

Concerts have always been one of my favorite things to do. David and I went to a couple of awesome concerts and I can't wait to experience more of them. It is also a great way to discover new bands.

traveling.

There are so many places on earth I want to see. And traveling with David is so much fun. We have been to awesome places already and I can't wait to add some more. Those are memories you will never forget. Plus when you are on vacation you usually treat yourself a little more than you usually would.

home decoration and art supplies.

I love to decorate our house, I love to create things, to paint and to draw. So when I see something that I really need in order to do these things....I can't say no.

So, now I am curious. What are the things you splurge on?
Have a lovely Thursday!

Ten On Tuesday. A mystery house, kiwi and book day.

Hallo meine Lieben,

I want to share some random things with you today. If you want to join in, you can do it here.
I hope your week is going great so far!

1. I recently bought some kiwis which are hard like rocks. You can use them to get nails in your walls, I swear. I have never seen anything like that before. Usually I cut them in a half and then eat the halves out of the skin, with a spoon. Not possible here. They are definitely monster kiwis.

2. Happy World Book Day, everybody! I will celebrate by starting a new crime novel. I hope you can all find something great to read too.

3. I will finally go and see a hair stylist next week. It really is time. Well, more precisely, it would have been better to go months ago.

4. I would love to visit the Winchester Mystery House in Northern California. It is supposed to be one of the creepiest places ever. The owner built this house over the course of 38 years because a medium told her that she would die if she stops. It is haunted by all the ghosts of the people who got killed by Winchester rifles. Now the 1660-room house is a maze full of architectural oddities such as hidden rooms, mile-long hallways, secret passages, dead ends, doors opening to blank walls, staircases leading to the ceilings and so on. Sounds like the perfect place to me.

5. I like this one. Even when I don't really drink much coffee at the moment. Or wine.

6. I think "Bootsmann" is a great name for a dog. I would consider this as a name for my future dog.  David isn't really amused. It's the name of the dog  from the children's show "Ferien auf Saltkrokan" which I always watched as a kid.

7. I feel like doing a puzzle.

8. This news reporter is pretty awesome. Great job. But seriously, what is wrong with these girls? Bombs exploded and they have nothing better to do? Come on.

9.  You can't have too many books.

10. My newest food addiction is soy yogurt mixed with vegan hazelnut spread and fruits in it. I eat that every night. So good. I also discovered that plain yogurt tastes awesome when you put some agave syrup in it.

Have a wonderful Tuesday, my lovelies!

I love spring!

Hallo meine Lieben,

hope you are enjoying your weekend! Mine is a pretty lazy one. I am only doing as much work as possible.
My friend Martha from Quick Cheap and Pretty wants me to answers some questions for an "I love spring" tag. Sounds like fun, I am in! And please hop over to lovely Martha and say hi! She is a sweetheart!

And here are her questions and my answers.

What's your favorite spring nail polish?
What is your must-have lip color this spring?

I have to say that I usually wear the colors I am in the mood for, so it is possible that I wear black nail polish in spring. But I do love all kinds of bright red nail polishes, pink and purple, mint and nude colors. I usually wear more nude colors on my lips but from time to time I like something bright. You can read about it here.

Show us your favorite spring dress!

I mostly wear pants to be honest but I would like to wear more dresses. I don't have that many and I think it is time to stock up on dresses. This one would be the kind of dress I would wear:

What's your favorite flower?

A gerbera. My all time favorite.

What is your favorite spring scarf/accessory?

My favorite scarf is a red one with foxes on it. Love it. I also like to wear bracelets at the moment, the bigger the better.

What spring trends are you most excited about this year?

I am not really a "trend person", I always wear what I am in the mood for and what I am comfortable with. I can't wait to wear ballerinas, loafers, sandals instead of boots.

Favorite spring candle?

I like all kinds of fruity smells but I don't have a favorite candle. Maybe I should search for one.

Favorite body spray/perfume?

I don't know if it counts as a body spray/perfume but I love the "Breath of fresh air" toner from Lush. It feels really good and refreshing on my skin and it smells so clean and awesome.

What is spring like where you live?

A mixture of beautiful, sunny and warm days and cloudy days with lots of rain. "April weather".

What is your favorite thing about spring?

To be in the nature. I love to see all the beautiful flowers and tress starting to grow and blossom. It's also great to be able to spend more time outdoors again. And that I don't need to make as many hot water bottles.

Are you a spring cleaner?

I always like to have the house clean but I don't really do a spring cleaning. I am more of a spring gardener.  I like to get more flowers and plants.

Any plans for spring break or an upcoming vacation?

No vacation plans right now. We had our vacation in February, that's enough. :)

I tag everybody who wants to answer these questions too and I hope you are all having a wonderful spring and a beautiful day!

Holy Grail cosmetics.

Hallo meine Lieben

how is your week going? I hope you are all doing fine.
It's time for another Random Thursday. I really love this link-up! It is always so much fun to read the other girls' posts.

I do love cosmetics. A lot. It is so much fun to discover new products but there are some that I stick to for a longer time because they are soo good that I don't want to live without them anymore. And here are some of them.

Lime Crime lipstick in "Coquette"

I think this lipstick has the perfect nude shade. I don't often wear bright lipstick shades. Not that I don't like them but I always feel like a clown when I wear them. This shade is great to wear it every day. I also love the texture of the lipstick

Lime Crime Velvetine Lipstick in Suedeberry

This is what I wear when I want to feel like a clown. Just kidding. I am trying to get used to wear brighter colors. Because I think they look fantastic. But mostly on other people.

Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lip Tar in Hoochie

I would love to own all the shades they offer. Such a great product. Plus it lasts very long. I probably own too many lip products.

Beauty Without Cruelty Nail Polish in Geranium.

I can't get enough of nail polishes and I think this one has the perfect purple shade. I probably own more nail polishes than I need but this one is my favorite at the moment.

Lush "You snap the whip" body butter.

First I wasn't sure about how to use this product because it is basically a huge black block that you rub over your skin. But after I first used it I was in love. And I have to admit that I had to smell my own arm the whole time because it smells so incredibly good. I can't even describe the smell but there is blackcurrant and macadamia oil in it.

Smith's Rosebud Salve Balm.

First of all, I love the smell of roses. I am also a huge fan of all kinds of lip balms. So this seemed to be the perfect product for me when I saw it at the Sephora store in Las Vegas. And I was right. Love that stuff. Makes my lips feel so smooth. Plus it smells incredible.

Well, there are more products I love to use but I guess it is enough for one post.

And now, please tell me what your favorite beauty products are? And are there any products you really hate?

Have a wonderful Thursday!

All the products are cruelty free and vegan friendly.

Ten On Tuesday. Lyoner, music history and Tyrion who fights for animal rights.

Hallo meine Lieben,

it's time for some random Ten On Tuesday again. You can link up on Lin's blog here.

1. I am still shocked because of yesterday's events. Sometimes I really can't believe all the hatred and cruelty in this world. What is wrong with people? We could all live together in peace.

2. I love Peter Dinklage in Game Of Thrones but this makes me like him even more. Way to go!

source
He is a global ambassador for Cruelty Free International now and speaks out against animal testing. You can read more about it here.

3. I beg you to listen to this song, at least for a couple of seconds. I am pretty sure this is a piece of music history and you can't miss this.

One of the most entertaining songs ever. My favorite person in this video is the guy on the right behind the piano. He looks like he is totally into the song.
David discovered the song a couple of days ago and I have to say that it is pretty addictive. Hilarious song. The lyrics, the dance moves, the people....

4. I started to watch The Carrie Diaries and I expected to not like it very much but I have to say that it is pretty good. It does not really feel like a prequel of Sex And The City most of the time to me but it is definitely a very entertaining show. I can't understand why David does not want to watch it.

5.  April 27 is Save The Frogs Day! How cool is that? You can read more about it here. I am sure Henri the toad would like that. I mean, they are related.

6. Grumpy cat rocks.

7.  I am sure we would be great friends.

8. I never find anything when I go shopping and look for something specific. I only find things when I don't want to buy.

9. I tried to suppress it but I found the proof that I ate meat a long time ago (It's "Lyoner", a specialty from my home state). I am sorry.

10. I wish I would still own that fabulous shirt in the picture above.

Have a wonderful Tuesday!

The rescue of Henri, the toad.

Hallo meine Lieben,

I hope you are all having a wonderful weekend with lots of sunshine.

I have to tell you a story about an animal I met.

Henri, the toad.

Okay, I admit, none of these toads is Henri but he looks pretty familiar. Unfortunately I did not take a picture of the real Henri. But maybe I will meet him again someday.

I know that Henri is a boy because he had something like this:

I have no idea what the English word for this is but in German it is "Schallblase" and the male toads use it to seduce the girls. Pretty smart these toads.
I guess you all know that I love animals and that I think that animals are fascinating.
Did you know that the female toad carries the male toad on her back on their way to the water? Another fascinating fact. It looks like this.

Okay, I want to tell you about the rescue.
I was driving  my car when suddenly I saw a toad on the other side of the road. I did not expect this but I immediately stopped my car because I knew that the toad would not survive very long on the road.
When I jumped out of the car and started running towards the toad I saw a car coming on the other side of the road. The car was too fast and I was too far away so all I could do was hope.
The stupid driver did not even slow down but fortunately he did not drive over the poor toad.
I was relieved for a second but then I saw 5 other cars coming and I knew I had to do something.
I was still a couple of meters away from the toad so I ran on the street and started to wave my hands. I am sure I must have looked like a really crazy person but I couldn't care less because it worked.
The cars stopped and I was able to pick up the toad from the street and carry him to a safe place.

All's well that ends well.

Have a wonderful Saturday!

I'm addicted to...

Hallo meine Lieben,

hope your week is going great! It is time for another Random Thursday post. And the topic is this one.

Oh well, there are many things I am addicted to. I have to say that I am obsessed with so many things. I just need more time to do all the things I am addicted to. But let's start.

Books.

I guess that's not a big secret. My dream would be to own a library, thousands of books in a cozy room with high bookshelves, a fireplace and a cozy armchair. Trust me, I would not leave this room anymore. I can spend hours in a bookstore, I love to discover new books and I don't want to be disturbed when I read because this means that I am not "there". I am in my book. Crime novels are my favorite by the way. But all kinds of books are awesome, if it is fiction or non-fiction.

David.

What can I say...he rocks. He makes me happy. That's why I married that guy.

Animals.

I don't want to live without animals. They make me smile, they cheer me up. One day I want to be able to live at a place with lots of rescued animals. Cats, dogs, bunnies, sheep, goats, donkeys, chicken, cows, pigs....They are all welcome.

Flea markets.

I always find something special there. Old books, jewelry, decoration, furniture. For me it is the perfect way to spend a Sunday afternoon.

Beauty products.

I love to try new beauty products.  When they are cruelty free. The one above is pretty awesome. I own lots of lipsticks, nail polishes, eye shadows and so on. I also can't get enough of body lotions, bath bombs, face masks....I am a girl. I admit it.

TV shows and movies.

So many shows and movies to watch....just not enough time. My all time favorite movie is The Boondock saints. You can read about some of my favorite movies here. I am totally addicted to the show Bones right now but some of my all time favorites are ER, Friends, Castle, The Big Bang Theory, Breaking Bad, Black Books, Freaks and Geeks, New Girl, Sex and the city and many more. I also love cooking shows, documentaries about science and animals, What not to wear....

Tea.

I have always loved tea. Currently I am loving it even more, I rarely drink coffee at the moment. I don't know why but I can't get enough of tea. My favorites at the moment are Moroccan Mint and green tea.

Magazines.

I really love magazines, all kinds of magazines. I read women's magazines, magazines about food, animals, science, fashion, gossip, arts and crafts...I love to drink a cup of tea and look through a magazine. All the articles and pictures inspire me.

DIY.

I love to paint, to knit, to draw, to make jewelry, build my own furniture, decorate the house, take pictures, I want to learn how to sew...it all fascinates me so much.

Food.

I love to eat and to cook and to bake. It is a perfect way to relax. I love to read cooking books and to try out new recipes. I would say that Indian food is my favorite but I also love Thai, Italian, Mexican, Chinese and German Sauerkraut for sure.

Music.

I would not say that I am very musical but I love to play instruments and sing ( I am terrible), I love to listen to my favorite songs over and over, I have been to lots of concerts and every single one of them was special. No matter if it was Trail of Dead in front of a couple of hundred people, Robbie Williams in front of 60000 or the biggest Rock festival in Germany. I just love it. And one day I will learn how to play piano...

What are your addictions? Please tell me!
And have a lovely Thursday!

10 completely random facts about me.

Hallo meine Lieben,

I completely missed the Ten On Tuesday link up yesterday. I was so busy that I did not have any time to come up with a post. That's why I am doing this today.
I hope you are all having a wonderful day!
I decided for a theme this week and what is better than to talk about myself? A lot, I guess. But I thought I should tell you some more personal things today.
So here we go.

Number 1.

I think I own at least 400 books. I am not sure, I have never counted them. But I would love to have my own library. With 5 meter high bookshelves, a fireplace and a comfy old armchair.

Number 2.

I have a scar of my forehead. I got this when I was three and decided that it would be a good idea to drive my tricycle against a cupboard in the living room.

Number 3.

I stopped eating animals when I was 12. I could eat potatoes every day. I would never ever eat onions.

Number 4.

I don't have any siblings but I always wanted to have a brother or a sister. Unfortunately that wasn't possible. I was always jealous of my best friend Julia because she has a brother and a sister.

Number 5.

When I was a kid I preferred to play with cars, in the mud, with skateboards and so on. I have never really been into Barbie. I liked Rainbow Bride though. I still own some of the stuffed animals. My favorite was Schleichmichel, I think he was called Lurky in English.
That guy.

Number 6.

I prefer to drink my tea really sweet. But I never use sugar in my coffee.

Number 7.

My favorite things to do are: spending time with David, reading, being in the nature, going to flea markets, traveling, spending time with animals, shopping, watch movies and TV shows, sleeping, cooking, listening to music, going to concerts, painting, being creative, baking, watching documentaries,  drawing,  drinking tea, hiking, reading magazines, eating and many more.

Number 8.

There are so many things going wrong on this planet  and I would love to be able to change them. This really drives me crazy sometimes, it makes me sad and angry and I don't know what else.

Number 9.

I have a picture of myself as a 3-year old in a cowboy costume signed by Kevin from the Backstreet Boys. My parents coincidentally met the Backstreet Boys in a restaurant and my Mom thought that she should get an autograph. And all she had was the above mentioned picture.

Number 10.

I immediately start to cry when I see a sick animal. Even when it is "only" a cold.

Have a wonderful Wednesday, my friends! And sorry for being too late with this post!

A smart man and a serial killer movie without a serial killer.

Hallo meine Lieben,

Monday is definitely not my favorite day of the week but I hope you are all doing great!

This is one of the best quotes I have heard in a long time and I wanted to share it with you.

What a smart man...

Well, another topic.

You know what is weird? When you pick a movie from a list that says "The best serial killer movies of all time" and then you start watching the movie, somebody gets murdered and then you spend 2 hours waiting for the mean serial killer to kill again but nothing happens. Thanks, imdb!

Speaking of serial killers....I thought this one is pretty "funny".

Well maybe next time. Don't get me wrong, the movie (It was "Insomnia") was really good but it wasn't a serial killer. And when you sit there waiting for a serial killer then you get pretty confused.

Do you have any recommendations?  What is your favorite serial killer movie?

I don't have much to tell today so I want to wish you a wonderful week and say thanks again, Mr. Gervais!

Have a lovely Monday!
