The one where I laugh about spiders, enjoy vegan baking and wear fuzzy socks. {Ten On Tuesday}

Hallo meine Lieben,

hope you are enjoying your week! You can link up with my lovely friend Alyssa here.

1. Yesterday was the birthday of one of the most fantastic people the world has ever seen (happy birthday, David!)

2. This is so adorable and funny. Makes me smile every single time I look at it!

3. I bought the world's warmest and fuzziest socks yesterday and I could not be any happier with them. It's like walking on clouds. Really warm clouds.

4. I also found a hat to keep my ears warm which does not make me look like a complete idiot. It wasn't so easy to find it. But I succeeded.

5. Tiger agrees that my doggy socks are fantastic.

6. Lumpi loves to cuddle with his very own stuffed animal which is so cute that it melts my heart.

7. I found some pretty fantastic vegan things this week: vegan parmesan "cheese" and chocolate oat milk. The milk carton says "wow, no cow" and I love it!

8. I decided that I need to learn Icelandic and Swedish. But first of all Danish so that I am able to read the 6th Carl Mørck book and not have to wait for a German or English translations. I hate waiting.

9. I pretended to have baking skills again and made some scone-like pastries with poppy seeds, pistachios and a core of nougat. No baking talent but it still tastes delicious. (Sorry for the crappy picture quality though.)

10. My book wishlist is full of vegan cook books and baking books.

Have a great rest of the week!

{Book talk #1} I love to talk about books.

Hallo meine Lieben,

I hope you are enjoying your Sunday! As most of you probably know: I love books. Which is why I decided to start doing "Let's talk books"-posts. I have no idea if this will be a weekly, monthly or whatever thing but I do know that I will talk about books I like or hate, my relationship to books, I will review books, show you books that mean a lot to me, talk about the dream library I want to own etc. I really have no idea what will happen with this idea but we will see. For today I decided to answer some general questions about books which I found on Bookshelf Reflections.

Which book most recently did you not finish?

I usually finish every book I start. Sometimes it takes a bit longer to finish a book because I read several books at the same time. Maybe this counts: a while ago I read the first four pages of 50 Shades of Grey just to see if the writing is that bad and yes, it is. It hurts to read it.

Which book is your guilty pleasure?

I do not feel guilty about any book I read but there are some books I read over and over and over. The Harry Potter series for example and the Adrian Mole diaries. I have read those books at least 10 times each and they never get old. I also enjoy reading books from my childhood. I don't know if you consider those a guilty pleasure. But I do love to read the Der kleine Vampir (The little vampire) books, also TKKG and Die Drei Fragezeichen which are detective series for kids.

Which book do you love to hate?

Any poorly written book  by any author with no passion but a huge desire for money. And books where I already know the ending without even reading it.

Which book would you throw into the sea?

I guess I love books way too much to throw one into the sea. Plus there is already too much rubbish in the sea. Honestly, the only book that really annoyed me is the 50 Shades of Grey one. And maybe statistics books because I hate statistics.

Which book have you read the most?

The Adrian Mole diaries, Harry Potter series, the children's books I mentioned above, the Nick Twisp diaries, I am Charlotte Simmons, Das alte Haus.

Which book would you hate to receive as a present?

A cookbook for meat lovers.

Which book could you not live without?

Scandinavian crime novels.

Which book made you the angriest?

Eating Animals by Jonathan Safran Foer because the way humanity treats animals is a shame.

Which book made you cry the most?

Eating Animals again. I remember reading it in the train and I had to cry. I will never understand how people can keep eating animals when they know what happens to these innocent animals. Sorry but it is pure horror and nobody should support this.

Which book cover do you hate the most?

It's weird but usually I like the German covers of crime novels better than the English ones. I don't know why but they are always a better fit. I do not like the cover of one of the German editions of the Adrian Mole book "The Cappuccino Years" because it does not look like an Adrian Mole book but rather a cheap romance novel. See here.

Stacking the shelves...

- Not that kind of girl by Lena Dunham
- Nebelmord by Yrsa Sigurðardóttir

PS: You can never have too many books....

PPS: I just read on a Danish website that the 6th Adler-Olsen novel got published there on Friday. It is called "Boundless". How long do I have to wait for a German or English translation! It is driving me crazy!! Maybe I can learn Danish real quick...It looks like otherwise I have to wait until March....

Happy reading!

Bunny rain boots, literary scarves and an international meow. {Ten On Tuesday}

Hallo meine Lieben,

welcome to another (pretty rainy) Ten On Tuesday. You can link up with my friend Alyssa here

1. Please sign the #befurfree campaign and save Kimi and all the other innocent animals being killed for fur. You can also follow on Instagram @savekimi. PS: Fuck Burberry.

2. I am a little bit in love with these rain boots. Bunnies!

3. 37 ways to proudly wear your love for books. I do like books and I cannot lie. (Are we friends on Goodreads yet?) I guess I need a bookcase phone case now.

4. Speaking of books... A literary scarf seems to be a good gift for all bookaholics.

5. I love desserts. I really do. Best part of a meal. But I cannot eat sweet stuff for breakfast. No oatmeal, marmalade etc.

6. I went to a flea market on Sunday and I ended up not finding anything. I think that never happened before. The only thing I liked was crazy expensive.

7. Okay, this makes me smile every time I look at it. It is "Miau" in German by the way.

8. I need to start working out more again. I do go for a walk almost every single day but I rarely do the Jillian Michaels workouts anymore. I guess I got a bit tired of her. Maybe I need to find something else I like better. Yoga would be good.

9. On Saturday I made some pretty great banana bread...with poppy seeds, whole grain flour, almonds, mandarin oranges and cinnamon. And no sugar. It might not look that great but it surely tastes fantastic.

10. It's October which means it's time to watch some horror movies. That's my plan for next weekend.

Have a fantastic week! Thanks for reading!

Confessions of a bookaholic.

Hallo meine Lieben,

happy Sunday! I hope you are all enjoying your weekend. Sunday is the perfect day for some excessive reading which is why I want to share some of my bookfessions with you.

1. I absolutely judge books by their covers.
2. I can spend hours browsing through a book store or the internet searching for more interesting books to read.
3. My to-be-read pile is huge. And I am adding more and more books.
4. I buy books even when I still have a lot waiting to be to read. It just feels so good. Especially when you buy used books for cheap.
5. I can go crazy at book flea markets. Last time I bought 19 books in one day. And that was just because I left at that point.
6. I am not the biggest fan of science fiction books. There are some exceptions though.
7. I hope this is me when I am old.

8. Sometimes I try to read books as slowly as possible. I just don't want them to end.
9. I always read several books at the same time.
10. I do not like to be interrupted when I read.
11. I never forget a publishing date of a book I want to read.
12. I do not like to lend my books. I make an exception when the person is another bookaholic I trust.
13. If I will ever be a ghost I want to haunt a library.
14. One of my bookshelves is reserved for only crime novels.
15. I love the smell of books.
16. I cry when animals get hurt in a book. But I do think that everybody should read "Eating Animals" by Jonathan Safran Foer.
17. The characters in the movies almost never look like I imagine them when I read the book.
18. You can never have too many books.
19. Books are my friends.
20. Looking at my books make me happy.

Are you a bookaholic? Do you have any bookfessions to make?
Have a fantastic week!

A crappy family, baked goods cravings and a guitar loving cat. {Ten On Tuesday}

Hallo meine Lieben,

happy Tuesday! You can link up with my friend Alyssa here.

1. Popular Halloween costumes of the last 25 years. What is your favorite costume ever?

2. Sometimes I get so cold in the evening that I wear two pairs of socks (one of them my over knee socks) and two warms sweaters, make a hot water bottle and have two blankets with me on the couch. I am lucky to also have cats who keep me warm.

3. I finally downloaded Spotify (Thank you, Rika!) and I am loving it! I am listening to songs that I have not heard in years right now.

4. This is pretty much the coolest towel ever. Tea is clearly my favorite drink in fall. And ever. Still loving the licorice and mint tea but I am also drinking Moroccan mint and chai tea on a daily basis.

5. This family sold their house for 2.000.000 dollars together with their cat for 140.000 dollars. Who does that? Very responsible pet owners. And look at their stupid smiles in the picture. Just want to punch them.

6. This looks like a person who really loves her cat. And that cat clearly loves her. My cats would probably do the same - or run away because I cannot sing at all.

7. I need more cooking books in my life.

8. I am craving cinnamon rolls. So much. But I am cutting out sugar right now. And anything not whole grain. But soon....soon....I will try to bake these....

9. I am also planning to make some pumpkin pie, coconut cream pie, Apfelstrudel and poppyseed buns. As you can clearly see, I like baked goods.

10.  Random fact: My mom once met Kevin from the Backstreet Boys in front of a restaurant restroom.

Have a fantastic week!

A spooky holiday.

Hallo meine Lieben,

hope you are enjoying your weekend! Halloween is by far my favorite holiday of the year, I love everything about it. Plus nobody kills innocent turkeys for this holiday. Which is why I decided to share some of my favorite spooky items with you.

Vegan Halloween candy.

\

I love the fact that there is such a wide variety of vegan products out there now. You can even get vegan Halloween candy which makes the holiday even more special. I mean, everybody loves candy.

Count Cat-cula sweater.

A sweater with a black bat-cat. I don't think I need to say more.

Bat tights.

I guess it is not a secret how much I love bats so these are perfect. And they keep your feet warm which is always a plus for me.

Edgar Allen Poe tote.

It's always a good time to read Edgar Allen Poe but I guess Halloween is perfect.

A bat on a branch.

Because it's a bat and because it looks cool. Enough said.

Gluten free and vegan mummy cookies.

Because cookies that look like mummies taste even better.

A feline dress.

It is a dress and there are black cats on it (and some white ones). So I love it.

Bat socks.

I really really like bats.

Halloween movies.

Including Addams Family, Idle Hands, Halloween (duh), Ghostbusters, Gremlins, Casper, The Corpse Bride, Friday the 13th, Monster House, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Frankenweenie, ....

Costumes.

Dressing up is so much fun.

Anything pumpkin.

I cannot even describe how much I want to try this. I love pumpkin and pumpkin body butter sounds perfect to me.

What do you love about Halloween?

Cat elbow patches, a classy yawn and otter love. {Ten On Tuesday}

Hallo meine Lieben,

hope you are having a great week. It's definitely fall here - rainy and windy. You can link up for Ten On Tuesday with my friend Alyssa.

1. Canada, this is ridiculous. You want to make a vegan company test their food on animals  - which means force feeding it to rats - in order to be able to sell it in your country? And on top of that you want to make them add chemicals to their food?

2. I always read the labels of any food item I consider buying.

3. Okay, this is way too cute not to share. Love otters. This little guy definitely does not like having pictures taken. I can totally understand.

4. I bought some thermo leggings with fleece on the inside. I cannot describe how comfy they are.

5. Tiger surely is cute and classy.

6. This goat makes me laugh so much. I really hope I will be able to live with goats someday. And sheep. And cows. And donkeys.

7.  A cardigan with cat elbow patches? Love it.

8. I want  to try to make my own pumpkin spice latte. Because I like anything pumpkin spice. But it is hard to find vegan options.

9. I know a lot of people do not like this haircut on her but I will definitely consider it next time I think about cutting my hair off.

10. I am still not-so-patiently waiting for the 6th Carl Mørck book. I read in an interview that Adler-Olsen announced it for 2014. But I cannot find any news about it. It drives me crazy.

Have a great rest of the week!
