Meanwhile in a small town on a dreary day....

Hallo meine Lieben,

I have not done this kind of post in a while and I guess a new year (even when it already feels old) is a good reason for a little catch-up. I am such a horrible blogger right now. That needs to change. I hope you are all doing great.

Current bookAll The Bright Places by Jennifer Niven. I laughed, I cried, I fell in love with the main characters, I was shocked, my heart melted, I did not want the book to end, could not stop reading. Definitely one of the best books I have read in a while. It's not even the kind of book I would usually pick up. Who has read the book, I want to talk about it. And I guess I need to start writing book reviews after all.
Current playlist - Sunday, bloody Sunday by U2. For some mysterious reasons that song came to my mind today and I started listening to it and then never stopped.
Current color - Blue. Reminds me of the book I just finished.
Current food - Apple cake. I was in the mood for apple cake yesterday so I made one with lots of cinnamon, apples and apple and apricot sauce. Turned out great, even without a recipe.
Current show - I am re-watching Moone Boy and I am impatiently waiting for the third season. If you need a good laugh then check out Martin Moone and his imaginary friend Chris O'Dowd.
Current need - A lottery jackpot would be nice. But I also need to be able to finally find some tapioca pearls in the grocery store because I want to make tapioca pudding. But it feels like there is a conspiracy going on to keep me away from tapioca pearls. Damn you, conspiracy.
Current indulgence Vivani White Nougat Crisp chocolate (made with rice milk). That stuff is almost too good to be true. I am kind of glad that they only sell tiny bars and not huge chunks of it because then I wouldn't be able to stop eating at all. Good stuff.
Current mood - A mix of a lot of weird emotions.
Current quote - "Act. Don’t react. See a need, fix it first. Worry about the details later. If you wait until you are asked you have just missed a golden opportunity. They are fleeting and rare." (My hero Philip Wollen)
Current wish list item - Books. They are always on my wishlist. And a new couch. My old one is becoming a nightmare.
Current movie - Paddington. I need to see this as soon as possible because Paddington Bear is my (and my guinea pig's) childhood hero.
Current magazine - I got a magazine which is supposed to teach you how to sew. The first couple of pages look fine and then it gets so confusing that it scares me.
Current item of clothing - Warm fuzzy socks all the way. I would not survive winter without them.
Current purchase -Lots of Vivani chocolate, a pomegranate, a mango and a book.
Current drink - Tea all the way. I got some stinging nettle mango tea which turned out to be quite tasty. Also lots of fruit smoothies.
Current beauty product - I currently started using a face cream by Lavera with roses and macadamia nut oil - organic, cruelty free and vegan. I am a fan.
Current shoes - Fuzzy house slippers because fuzzy house slippers mean warm feet.
Current hate - the usual: animal abusers. There are too many of them.
Current item to make my home look better - Searching for the perfect rug. And some new coffee mugs would be nice.
Current workout routine - I suck at working out right now. The only thing I do is to go for a walk almost every day. But no Jillian Michaels workout, no running...I need to start getting active again.
Current worry -  Next...
Current plans - Many. More about that soon.
Current smell - Freshly baked apple cake is pretty nice. Also I am searching for a candle that smells like wild roses.

I hope you will all have a fantastic week! Thank you so much for reading. I promise to be back soon!

  2. I read somewhere else a recommendation for All the Bright Places. Guess that one needs to move up my "to read" list.

  3. I don't think I'd be able to learn to sew from a magazine - I need somewhere there physically showing me what to do with my hands! I do eventually want to learn how to knit and crochet. One day...

I can't wait to see Paddington, too! Whenever one of my friends has a baby, I send them a Paddington bear book. He was one of my favorites growing up, too.

    1. I don't think I am able to either. I agree, I need somebody to exactly show me what to do. It looks so complicated. I am trying to knit a scarf but I am not very good at it yet! :)

Aww, that is so cute. I love the Paddington Bear books! I even ham his as my laptop wallpaper. :) Let me know what you think about the movie!

  5. Ooh, I want to read that book! And I am eager to see Paddington too, my dad had a stuffed Paddington bear with a little felt hat and coat that we played with all the time as kids. I hope the movie will be good and not screw anything up!

Aww, that is so cute Paddington reminds you of your childhood as well. I wish I had a stuffed bear like that! I am sure the movie is fantastic, I only heard great things!

  9. I could use a lottery jackpot right about now myself.. as for tea being your favorite drink, have you tried any of the Numi teas? They are my current favorite! Non-GMO, organic, fair trade... Their Chai and Green Jasmine is delicious! Also Traditional Medicinals has some great herbal teas... - www.domesticgeekgirl.com

    1. I hope we will all win the jackpot! :) No, I have not tried Numi teas yet! But I just looked at their website and they have so many great ones. I need to find them here! Thank you for the recommendation! I am really loving the Licorice Mint tea by Yogi Teas right now. Sounds weird but tastes delicious!

    1. Yeah, I always find that the tea selection in Germany is much better than in the States. At least in Ohio. :)
The apple cake was so good. This weekend I will make salted peanut butter chocolate cupcakes!

  13. Oh, homemade apple cake sounds lovely. I find myself craving lots of sweet treats these days - I guess the winter has to do with it :)

I started swimming again last week but so far I've only been once each week. I really need to take my fitness routine more seriously now!

From one terrible blogger to another (though you're way better than me :) ) don't worry about it. Sometimes life gets in between and it is only right to spend more time living in the real world than blogging :)

    1. I always eat way more sweets in winter than in summer. :) I try not to feel bad about it! This weekend I want to bake salted peanut butter chocolate cupcakes!

You are clearly doing so much better than I do. I really need to start exercising again! I never feel like going out to run because the weather is so depressing! Swimming is probably a good idea although I am scared of water. :)

You are posting so much recently so you are way better than me. :) But you are right, sometimes life just gets in between. :)

    2. Hey Katrin, are you still in need of tapioca pearls? I just saw them today in our local oriental supermarket and thought of you :) I was surprised they actually look like pink beads. I had bought tapioca paste before to do some curries and that was a dark brown :p
Anyway, let me know if still need them. Maybe you have an asian market near to try and find them :)

    3. You are so sweet! :) And I am so stupid! I have not even thought about looking in an Asia market! :) There is one in town so I need to go there and look! I looked in several supermarkets and only found those: http://www.muellers-muehle.de/private-haushalte/produktwelt/staerke/perlsago.html
They are made of tapioca as well but the pearls are really small! And they are not pink! They are white! I have never seen tapioca paste either! I know my mom used to make tapioca soup but the pieces were really really small, even smaller than the ones I got. Thank you so much for thinking of me! I need to go to the Asia market and have a look! <3
