Please protest against the dog massacre in Romania.

Hallo meine Lieben,

I will be back with some more regular posts tomorrow  but today I want to ask you to please sign this petition. It is written in German and English.

You know how much I love animals and what's happening in Romania right now makes me angry and sad. I am speechless, devastated and shocked . I can't believe that a modern country introduces laws like that.

The background:

To "get rid" of the stray dog problem in the country the president passed a law which allows to "put down" dogs  if they are not claimed within two weeks which basically resulted in a "dog genocide". Thousands of dogs have been brutally killed since then, beaten to death, set on fire and so on. I won't share the pictures with you but I can tell you that they haunt me in my dreams.

Romania refuses to discuss a spay and neuter program and to put up dogs for adoption. Animal right activists worldwide are outraged because of the way the Romanian government handles the situation.

The new law will be discussed again on Friday at the constitutional court. Please sign the petition here, every signature counts!

In my opinion Romania shows that the country is an unworthy member of the European Union.

Talk soon & have a good day!

  1. Was da in Rumänien los ist, ist wirklich erschütternd. Natürlich sind die vielen Hunde ein Problem. Aber es muss doch auch anders gehen, als sie brutal abzumurksen. Ich finde das wirklich schlimm.

  4. Terrible.

I saw a travel program a couple years ago as as of then dogs were still eaten in rural areas of Romania. This country needs to serious help...not only for the way they treat animals but for the way they treat their people. Its no wonder they don't stand against this themselves when you look at the conditions and way of life there.

    1. It really is terrible. I did not know that they still eat dogs in some rural areas! The country really needs help but people just close their eyes. I mean, Romania is part of the EU but they just don't care what's going on!

  5. When I was in Bucharest a few years ago, I was horrified and saddened by the number of stray dogs on the streets. It's tragic that the Romanian government didn't seek a humane solution a long time ago.
I signed the petition yesterday and have sent it out there for others to sign. Keeping my fingers crossed...

  6. The stray dog problem was very depressing, unfortunately it's really common everywhere in some countries. I didn't even see stray dogs in some Asian countries. Thank you for sharing this and I will sign the petition.
