Random Thursday. I started blogging because....

Hallo meine Lieben,

happy Random Thursday! Thanks for being a part of this and linking up with LinEm and me. I hope you are all doing fantastic!

Well, I first started to only read blogs when I moved to the United States in 2011.  I started searching for expat blogs because I wanted to read what people in the same situation have to say. But I did not only look for expat blogs...I started reading all kinds of blogs about things I am interested in...veganism, books, traveling, animal rights, food, fashion....I got really into it and checked for new posts of my favorite blogs every single day. I left comments and started to get to know some of the people.

At some point just reading and commenting did not seem to be enough. I had so much to say and I wanted to share it with others. Which is kind of weird since I am a very private person. But there are so many things I care about and I felt like I needed to share.

So one day in 2012 I wrote my first blog post...nothing exciting or special but I was so nervous. I mean, I did not know if anybody would care to read it....if people would welcome me into the world of blogging. But they did. It was fantastic...I met so many fabulous people, I am happy to interact with them, I made new friends, I was able to discuss topics I care about with people I care about, I look forward to check my favorite blogs every evening. I never regretted the decision to start a blog myself. I even met people who I call my best friends now (you know who you are!) and I can talk to them about all the things I care about. I found people to talk about all things vegan which means a lot to me since I don't know any other vegans in real life. I found people to discuss books with which is so fantastic because it feels so good to be able to. You guys all rock so much!

There are still many things I need to learn (especially about blog design) and there are so many things I want to blog about (just need more time!) so I am looking forward to many more years of blogging.

Of course, sometimes you just don't find the time or have no idea what to write about. But I guess that is normal and people understand.

So thanks to all of you for making this a wonderful experience!

Please let me know: why did you start blogging?

  1. I kind of started blogging for the same reason. I was an expat in the Netherlands and I wanted to have a sort of diary to remember all the special moments abroad and places I visit. And just like you I would like to pimp my blog design a bit but I'm not the most tech savvy person in the world hehe

I hope you keep on blogging for many years as well :)

    1. Funny we started for the same reasons! I love your blog design! :) I am just so sick of mine, I have that forever and I remember that it took forever to make it because I suck at things like that. But I really want a new one!

I hope you will never stop blogging either, I am so glad we have met!

  2. You're right - it is normal and people do understand. After all, there's the rest of life to be lived out there outside of the computer screen.

I started blogging over 10 years ago - I think a lot of people at my school were doing it and it was a great way (pre-Facebook) to keep up with people. Since then, I've moved on from that space but it's all about flexing the right side of my brain and keeping my writing skills active and sharp. I've been a writer (of random things) ever since I could remember and blogging is the perfect avenue for that

  3. I'm so glad you started blogging! I love reading your thoughts on everything!

I started back when we moved onto a farm in Tennessee b/c I knew I would want to have a record of our lives there and I've kept it up, fairly consistently, since then!

  5. It's always interesting to hear why people start! And I love how many blog topics there are out in the word- it's easy to find people who share your interests!
I started mine as a way to use up my free time. Now I can't seem to find the free time to blog. :)

  7. Katrin, you are simply awesome, and so is your blog! :)
I started blogging to keep friends and family up-to-date when I moved far away. But over the past 3 years it became more than that - it's a place to make new friends, to develop and share a passion in photography and to share my thoughts and experiences. I'm so happy I started it and that I found you here.
Ich drücke Dich sooooo dolle, liebste Katrin! :)

  8. I'm so glad you decided to start blogging, or else we wouldn't have "met"! It's always awesome to read your thoughts on animals, books, food, etc. You rock!!

It's wonderful to go online and feel like you've found a community of people who "get" you and what you love! Plus blogging really opens you up to new things, which is awesome. Here's to many more happy years of writing!!!

  9. I started blogging because I had no real friends and needed a way to get my thoughts out of my head (other than bombarding Jan with every single thing I was thinking!).

    1. Oh yeah, that is definitely an important reason. I did not know anybody when I came to America so it was nice to have somebody to "talk to". :)

  10. Great read, I didn’t know you moved to the U.S. in 2011, that was not too long ago! I started blogging about fashion before I started this vegan food blog for about two years, then became really active in recipes and restaurant reviews. I started blogged about vegan food because I want to keep everyone updated about my travels and vegan food I've tried so far!

  11. I don't remember, it seem so long ago, where does the time go? I started posting photos and ramblings one day, so I guess that means I started blogging to do just that. it seems like something easy and I didn't really need to know how to do anything but click a few buttons and create a few banners.

it's the staying put at one url and posting regularly that is the hard parts and the commenting and the networking. they're simple enough to learn as you go along.

that's all I got. on a different day, I'll probably have a different answer.

hope you have a great day.
