Random Thursday. My favorite Easter traditions.

Hallo meine Lieben,

welcome to another Random Thursday with LinEm and me! We hope you will have a wonderful Easter weekend!

Well, let me start with the bad: I am obviously not a fan of some things that come with Easter because Easter means a lot of animal cruelty. Did you know that male chickens get shredded alive immediately because they are not useful for the egg industry? Horrible and sad but true. Sometimes they get gassed or killed in another cruel way. And all the chickens who have to live in factory farms to produce all the Easter eggs? It is just terrible and needs to stop.

One thing I will never forget about my childhood Easter is searching for candy in our garden. My parents and grandparents always hid surprised for me and it was my highlight so go searching for them on Easter Sunday. No matter if it was snowing or raining or I don't know what. That is a tradition I will never forget and I definitely want to keep that alive.

My two Easter bunnies Tiffie and Findus will definitely get some extra cuddles on Easter. I mean, they are the Easter VIB's (Very Important Bunny).

What is your favorite Easter tradition?

  2. I hate that people buy bunnies and chicks for their kids at Easter, and then abandon them once they're no longer fuzzy and cute. :( Pets are for life! The upside of Easter is all the candy. I'm craving jellybeans like mad!

    1. I really hate that too. I mean, why do people do that? They should be smart enough to realize that you need to take care of your pet for many many years. I hate people who don't care or think. And yes, candy is definitely important!

  4. There's seriously something really really wrong in this world. Mass production, killing of animals that are considered unnecessary - and us humans claim to be smart? It's truly sickening :(
I loved the search for Easter candy around the house, too. My parents would do it in the house, my grandparents outside. I was always so looking forward to it.
Have a very Happy Easter! Did you get to look for vegan Easter candy? (Is there any? Maybe dark chocolate Easter candy?)
Ich drücke Dich noch Mal sooooooo feste, liebe Katrin.

    1. Yeah, humans really do their best to destroy everything. I just don't get it. I don't get that people don't understand that things have to change!
Searching for Easter candy definitely was the best part of it. :)
I got some vegan Easter candy! A chocolate bunny made of dark chocolate and some fondant eggs which are also made with dark chocolate. Pretty awesome. :) I also got some regular non-Easter candy. :) Hope you got lots of candy as well!
      Ich drueck Dich!

  5. To me Easter eggs are made of chocolate... no chickens have to live in factory farms to produce those! We did decorate boiled eggs for Easter when I was at primary school though.

    1. It really is heartbreaking to see how the chickens have to suffer. I just don't understand how people can support that. I painted eggs when I was a kid but we got the eggs from a nearby farm. At least the chickens did not have to live in cages etc.

  6. My family doesn’t celebrate Easter, I’m fortunate about this since I don’t know much about the holiday! Happy Easter to your little darling bunnies!

    1. I use Easter to celebrate my bunnies. :) We celebrated Easter when I was a kid but I am not religious so that part does not play a role for me.

  7. It is sad how roosters are treated. They just really aren't that useful so people who raise chickens don't know what to do with them. One rooster can fertilize the eggs of over a dozen chickens every day, so with a ratio like that, they really don't stand a chance. And if you're raising chickens solely for eggs, then they're even less useful.

When we raised chickens, I took a rooster in once just to spare him from dying. He ended up being one of the most entertaining of my chickens! :)

    1. It is so horrible that humans treat animals like things. I mean, the male chickens are not "useful" for them so they kill the poor little creatures! That is just terrible and makes me so angry and sad.

You are so sweet for taking the rooster in! I am sure you had lots of fun with him? What was his name?
