All things Christmas....Random Thursday!

Hallo meine Lieben,

are you having a nice week? I really hope you don't have any Christmas stress. Did you get all your presents? Or are you still searching for some?

I am linking up with these wonderful girls....

and this week's topic is very christmassy.

I have to admit that I am not a huge fan of Christmas since my Mom died. It is just always so depressing to not have her anymore because we always prepared the Christmas dinner together, put up the Christmas tree together, watched Dirty Dancing together...and so on.
So yeah, Christmas, not my favorite day.

But I don't want to ruin the topic.

So last year I had a pretty cool Christmas! My first American Christmas! It was a wonderful experience.
It was funny to do the presents on December 25 and not Christmas Eve like we do it in Germany. But I had a wonderful time with my American family! We ate a lot, played Wii, watched movies, talked a lot. It was a great relaxing day!

And here are some things that I associate with Christmas.

... lots of eating.

... watching movies. Especially Love Actually, The Holiday and Dirty Dancing.

Also, David introduced me to so many American Christmas movies. It was awesome. We made a very long list with movies that I need to know and we watched all of them. It was so much fun.

... being lazy. Sleeping, reading, TV and so on.

... being thankful for the wonderful people in your life.

... have a Christmas drink. I am still German.

One time when I was a kid my bunny Knuffi tried to eat the Christmas tree....the end of the story was that he knocked down the whole tree with all the decoration. Knuffi was fine though. The tree did not hit him!

What are your Christmas traditions?
Have a lovely day!

  1. The Holiday is one of my favourites! I love Jack Black in it.

So Katrin we had a German exchange student in my office and she had never had egg nog before.... and I was wondering if you have tried some! Though it isn't vegan so I am guessing probably not....

One of my favourite things for Christmas the past few years is the Butchart Gardens (a beautiful year round attraction here on Vancouver Island) to see their huge Christmas lights display. It is like you are actually walking in a winter wonderland. Highly recommended for anyone in the area! ~Stephanie

    1. Yeah, Jack Black is so great! Love his movies!

There is something called "Eierlikör" in German but I think it is not the same than egg nog. I have to admit that I never had egg nog before even when I still ate eggs. I only know it from movies!

I love what you say about Butchart Gardens! It sounds wonderful! I would love to be able to visit someday!

  2. We always have too many mimosas in the morning and open gifts and have a lazy afternoon with friends and family. My favorite Christmas movie to watch is Christmas Vacation!

  6. I don't really celebrate Christmas because I am single, its no fun being single at Christmas. In Holland they open gifts on the 5th for a celebration called Sinterklaas. Christmas is celebrated here but its more just a family gathering.

  7. Oh my gosh, I TOTALLY forgot about a Muppet Christmas Carol! I love that movie. I'm going to have to get my hands on that AND the Grinch, because those are both great ones!

    Merry Christmas, Katrin!

  9. I understand you so well, I am the same since my father died. Christmas is just not the same. It used to be the happiest most wonderful holiday. But anyhow- I wish you as wonderful a Christmas as you can have! Lots of love, xx

  10. Oh, I totally understand how you feel about Christmas :/. The spirit of the holiday kind of died when my mom passed, too. However, I have to admit that having moved and created my new own home has opened the door to new traditions and that kind of sweeps the sadness away ;). Back in Argentina, though, my sister and I stopped putting up the tree or actually celebrating.

    Super tight hug! ;)

  11. Aw, I know exactly what you mean about someone's passing around Christmastime that never makes it the same again. With my grandmother having passed only 3 weeks ago, Christmas was definitely not the same without her, but we made the best of it.

Like you, there was a lot of movie watching, eating and just being lazy haha.
