{Book talk #1} I love to talk about books.

Hallo meine Lieben,

I hope you are enjoying your Sunday! As most of you probably know: I love books. Which is why I decided to start doing "Let's talk books"-posts. I have no idea if this will be a weekly, monthly or whatever thing but I do know that I will talk about books I like or hate, my relationship to books, I will review books, show you books that mean a lot to me, talk about the dream library I want to own etc. I really have no idea what will happen with this idea but we will see. For today I decided to answer some general questions about books which I found on Bookshelf Reflections.

Which book most recently did you not finish?

I usually finish every book I start. Sometimes it takes a bit longer to finish a book because I read several books at the same time. Maybe this counts: a while ago I read the first four pages of 50 Shades of Grey just to see if the writing is that bad and yes, it is. It hurts to read it.

Which book is your guilty pleasure?

I do not feel guilty about any book I read but there are some books I read over and over and over. The Harry Potter series for example and the Adrian Mole diaries. I have read those books at least 10 times each and they never get old. I also enjoy reading books from my childhood. I don't know if you consider those a guilty pleasure. But I do love to read the Der kleine Vampir (The little vampire) books, also TKKG and Die Drei Fragezeichen which are detective series for kids.

Which book do you love to hate?

Any poorly written book  by any author with no passion but a huge desire for money. And books where I already know the ending without even reading it.

Which book would you throw into the sea?

I guess I love books way too much to throw one into the sea. Plus there is already too much rubbish in the sea. Honestly, the only book that really annoyed me is the 50 Shades of Grey one. And maybe statistics books because I hate statistics.

Which book have you read the most?

The Adrian Mole diaries, Harry Potter series, the children's books I mentioned above, the Nick Twisp diaries, I am Charlotte Simmons, Das alte Haus.

Which book would you hate to receive as a present?

A cookbook for meat lovers.

Which book could you not live without?

Scandinavian crime novels.

Which book made you the angriest?

Eating Animals by Jonathan Safran Foer because the way humanity treats animals is a shame.

Which book made you cry the most?

Eating Animals again. I remember reading it in the train and I had to cry. I will never understand how people can keep eating animals when they know what happens to these innocent animals. Sorry but it is pure horror and nobody should support this.

Which book cover do you hate the most?

It's weird but usually I like the German covers of crime novels better than the English ones. I don't know why but they are always a better fit. I do not like the cover of one of the German editions of the Adrian Mole book "The Cappuccino Years" because it does not look like an Adrian Mole book but rather a cheap romance novel. See here.

Stacking the shelves...

- Not that kind of girl by Lena Dunham
- Nebelmord by Yrsa Sigurðardóttir

PS: You can never have too many books....

PPS: I just read on a Danish website that the 6th Adler-Olsen novel got published there on Friday. It is called "Boundless". How long do I have to wait for a German or English translation! It is driving me crazy!! Maybe I can learn Danish real quick...It looks like otherwise I have to wait until March....

Happy reading!

  1. Hi Katrin

That's a very interesting post for it is about books!! I love books too. the last book I bought was 'The Bell Jar' by Sylvia Plath and it is really awesome (i am yet to finish it). I never publish non-veg cookbooks and any book that promotes animal cruelty in anyway and that is a policy of my publishing company :)

  2. Oh, those gifs are PERFECT! With our luck it will be a couple of years until the new JAO novel is put out in English... :( Shoot, by then you could almost learn Danish, I bet!

  3. The last book I failed to finish was by Andreas Eschbach. My boss bought me it for Christmas a few years ago and I just could not get into it.

  4. You make me laugh... "a cookbook for meat lovers" would be the WORST present for you!
And yeah, Fifty Shades is so horribly written it's laughable. Of course, that didn't stop me from from tearing through all three of the books (hanging my head in shame) x

    1. It clearly would be the worst present ever. :) I hope nobody will ever give anything like that to me!
Haha, no reason to feel ashamed. I mean, I checked the first book out as well. And I guess I will also check out the movie at some point. It can't be worse! :)

i love reading this. so true about 50 shades of gray. i feel the same way about the twilight series as well. but i think i'm weird that i read those books (and skipped so many pages) trying to find the point of interest that i couldn't seem to find.

    1. Glad you liked it, Niken! I agree, the Twilight series is horribly written as well! :) I guess you are not supposed to hate the main characters. Haha.

  7. It’s actually Sunday here, hehe! I cannot imagine reading poorly written book or books with tacky endings - I read a book that was written by my former neighbor and it talked about him being undercover agent and all - honestly it was the worst book I’ve EVER read. Nice book choices - I need to read Eating Animals! Thanks for the recommendation Katrin! I need to read Adler-Olsen novels sometimes...❤

    1. Good timing, I guess. :) I am sorry about that book you read. Sometimes it is really hard to finish one when it is too bad! I need to read Eating Animals again. I think I have read it 3 times already. And I am sure you would love the Adler-Olsen books, they are so good!

  8. Have you read the crime novels that J.K. Rowling has been writing under the pseudonym, Robert Galbraith? I'm on the first one and I can't even tell this is written by the same author as Harry Potter! I like it though - I believe as of yet there are only 2-3 books in this series, but I plan to read them all!
