Meet The Felines.

Hallo meine Lieben,

the lovely Erin from TexErin-in-Sydneyland is hosting a fantastic link-up and this week you can Meet the Felines. So hop over, say hi and see lots of cute kitty cats. Last week I introduced my bunnies Findus and Tiffie, you can find the post here

Here we go:

Meet Lumpi & Tiger, the two cats who make my life a lot happier. They are brothers and I adopted them when they were babies and my former landlord's brother wanted to "get rid of them". Whatever that means. I don't think I want to know. We will celebrate their 8th birthday this July. Every kitty birthday is a big event and we celebrate with presents and extra treats. But I guess I am not the only one who celebrates the birthdays of their furry family members, right?

Lumpi is the black guy and Tiger the tabby cat. Their favorites pastimes include sleeping on my bed, snoring, playing with their favorite mouse toy or with random accessories  like paper balls, pens and other things that are not made for cats, eating, sleeping on my lap, entertaining the bunnies, watching the birds, sleeping on my clothes, especially when they are in the laundry basket (clean of course), sitting in the tub and drinking water out of the faucet, trying to disturb me when I read and cuddling with each other. As you can see below.

They get along perfectly fine with their bunny brothers. As long as Tiger does not try to sleep on Tiffie's favorite chair. Then Tiffie jumps on him and scares him away. The bunnies are definitely in charge, there is no doubt.

They are such cuddly and loving cats. When you sit down on the couch, Tiger will immediately jump on your lap and Lumpi will curl up next to you - and then you are not allowed to leave anymore.
Tiger usually wakes me up every morning exactly ten minutes before my alarm goes off. He's the best alarm clock you can imagine, that is for sure.
These guys bring a smile on my face every day. And I am so thankful that they are a part of my family.

And of course, here's the queen: my dad's cat Jerry who is basically my sister. She is 11,5 years old and a bit of a diva. Which means she always gets what she wants. But who can resist that pretty face?

She loves eating, sleeping, meowing and cardboard boxes. Especially cardboard boxes. Lots of cardboard boxes. Big and small. No cat beds. Just cardboard boxes. One time I got her a new cat bed as a present but she only cared for the cardboard box it got delivered in. I think she has at least 6 or 7 to choose from at any time.

So now I am curious about your feline companions. Please tell me something about them!
Have a great rest of the week! And link up with Erin, of course!

Meet the.....bunnies!

Hallo meine Lieben,

I know, I know. I have not posted in a while but I am trying to keep up with all your blogs and I am hoping to post more regularly soon again.
Today is a very special occasion: I am linking up with my lovely friend Erin from TexErin-in-Sydneyland! And today's topic is "Meet the canines". I guess now you are thinking that I am cheating and I kind of am...but I am not a dog mommy (yet) but Erin said that bunnies would be okay as well. And since my bunnies are super-awesome I thought you might want to read about them. Make sure to check back next week for "Meet the felines" (and link-up of course!). And of course hop over and say hi to Erin, she loves books and animals and is overall fantastic!

So here we go: my bunny family members Findus and Tiffie.

One afternoon a friend of mine knocked on my door and when I opened her she was standing there with the tiniest cutest bunny in her hands: it was Tiffie. She rescued him (at that point I thought Tiffie was a girl though) from a really bad situation and knew how much I love animals and that I always talked about adding bunnies again to my family. So there we were, me totally unprepared but absolutely in love with the little creature and her in desperate need for a home for the bunny. So of course Tiffie moved in with me. But bunnies are very social animals and do not like to live alone. They need a bunny companion. I knew the cats wouldn't be enough (although the bunnies love their feline brothers...most of the time). The next day I checked the internet and of course there were homeless bunnies in desperate need for a home. I called the shelter, went there, saw Findus and had to take him home with me because he reminded me of my bunny Knuffi who lived with me when I was a child.

Shortly after, Tiffie got really sick. He had a really bad infection which he probably got before he moved in with me. Of course this got Findus sick too. They both stopped eating and were in really bad shape. The first vet I talked to in the animal clinic told me that she did not see a chance for them. I requested another vet. Findus and Tiffie are fighters and I believed that they could make it. I had to feed them with a syringe every couple of hours and they had to take lots of medication. We basically lived in the animal clinics because we went there every day. Sometimes twice. The first couple of weeks of their lives were not that great...but as you can see: they made it! And they are happy and healthy bunnies who will celebrate their 6th birthdays next month!

I cannot put into words how much I love these guys and how happy they make me. Even the cats love them a lot. They like to sleep in the bunnies' room (yes, they have their own room, I had my clothes and shoes in there before but of course the bunnies deserved the room) and the bunnies are fine with that...most of the time. Sometimes Tiffie gets annoyed when my cat Tiger sleeps in his spot and then just jumps on his back to make him go away. It always works.

Findus and Tiffie love to chase each other (and the cats), they love sleeping (especially in their bed (yes, they have a wooden bed with blankets and pillow) and eating (mostly carrots, apples, dried dandelion and other good stuff), they clean each other and hang out in the sunshine. They dislike grooming, driving in the car, going to the vet and when I go on their nerves.

Those guys make me happy every single day.

Please come back next week to meet the cats. And of course link up with Erin.

Thanks for reading!

Five Things. A shocking fact, a sweet temptation and a fascinating read.

Hallo meine Lieben,

happy Sunday! I hope you are having a wonderful Sunday! Will you watch the Super Bowl tonight? Do you care more about the game or the commercials? Which team will win? I have to admit that I still don't completely understand the rules...

You can check out my friend Celeste's post here.

1. Some inspiration.

Because sometimes you just need some motivation. Especially on a Sunday.

2. Some facts.

Did you know that to date, the EU has banned 1,100 chemicals in cosmetics; the Food and Drug Administration in America has banned only ten? Can you believe this? How is it possible? This really shocked me. For example: Cover Girl waterproof mascara (a brand you should not buy anyway because they do really cruel animal testing for all their beauty products) contains the same ingredient (petroleum distillates, an oil by-product) as Dr. Scholl’s Wart Remover—both of which are illegal in Europe. How nice. Who would not want to have that stuff in their eyes...
You can read more about this here

3. The perfect reading spot.

I am in desperate need of a vintage chair like this one. It would be the perfect place to hang out and read. Then I would just need a fire place and a globe bar.

4. Something sweet.

I planned to bake some vegan cinnamon rolls this morning but when I wanted to start I realized that some of the most important ingredients were missing (no, not cinnamon). So I decided to make some muffins instead and I have to stay that they turned out really great. I used what I could find and made cinnamon muffins with chocolate, marzipan, almond and vanilla yogurt. The dough tasted so good that I ate half of it before I ate the muffins but I guess that is the best part of baking. Will share the recipe soon.

5.  A book.

I recently discovered my love for true crime books and I am currently reading this one. I have to say that it is fascinating and shocking at the same time, there are so many things I did not know before. I definitely want to check out more true crime books.

Have a fantastic Sunday!

Five Things. A bunny, a travel show and a vegan milk shake.

Hallo meine Lieben,

I hope you are all having a fantastic weekend! Please check out my friend Celeste's Five Things as well. I am really sorry for my lack of posting and commenting recently. I am trying to catch up but things are a bit busy and I barely find the time for blogging right now. But things will get better, I promise!

1. This bunny.

No words. It is just so adorable that I had to share this print. I love bunnies.

2. This quote.

Agreed. We have to speak out for those who don't have a voice.

3. This deliciousness.

I can't help myself and my sweet tooth right now. I am pretty sure I am gaining some weight but I am craving anything sweet. And this vegan smores milk shake looks worth gaining some weight.

4. This show.

There is a new season of "Extreme Frontiers" and this time they travel through the United States. I love all kinds of travel shows but I have to say that Charley Boorman is by far my favorite traveler ever. David and I have watched all his other travel shows (some of them together with Ewan McGregor) and we can't wait to watch this one too.

5. This necklace.

It is from an Etsy shop called crobinsondesign. I love to hug trees so I guess this would be the perfect necklace for me. The shop offers lots of other cute jewelry, I especially love the animal shaped ones.

Hope you are having a fantastic Sunday and your week will be wonderful! Thanks for reading!

Ten On Tuesday. Bunny love, true crime and a sweet tooth.

Hallo meine Lieben,

hope you are having a wonderful first week of December! You can link up with Alyssa here.

1. Last weekend I did some laundry but forgot to add laundry detergent. So typical. I don't know why things like that always happen to me.

2. On Saturday I made a pasta dish with Sauerkraut. Sounds weird but is delicious. I cooked some spaghetti, then put some Sauerkraut in a pan, added some vegan cream, pepper and vegetable broth and then mixed it with the pasta. So delicious.

3. Wise words.

4.  This is the sad truth. And that does not even include the gassing of innocent dogs in animal shelters. Sick world.

5. Do you have a favorite true crime book? My friend Em recommended an article which is called "9 true crime books that will absolutely disturb you" and now I am hooked.

6. I am in love with this sweater (Christmas wishlist!!).

7. I feel like I am eating way too many sweets at the moment. Vegan gummi bears, Blätterteigtaschen with marzipan, Nussecken, granola bars, chocolate....I just can't stop. I blame it on December.

8. I really don't know what is wrong with this world. How can teenagers kick and kill an innocent hedgehog. I am speechless. I really am. This world needs to change. Drastically.

9. I will get my new glasses in a week!

10. Kitty Christmas sweater! I really have a soft spot for anything with animals on it.

Have a great week, lovelies!

International Rabbit Day.

Hallo meine Lieben,

Findus, Tiffie and I want to wish you a happy International Rabbit Day!

You can find more information about this fantastic day here.  "It promotes the protection and care of rabbits both domestic and wild." Yay for that.

And here some bunny cuteness....

Findus in his favorite sleeping spot. Originally, this is a cat bed. The cats did not care about it but Findus loves it.

Tiffie could definitely be a bunny model.

Both bunnies loves to eat.

As you can see, Findus is a very relaxed bunny. His second favorite spot is his blanket.

Curious Tiffie.

I hope you are having a wonderful International Rabbit Day! Tiffie and Findus did not care that much about their special day, I guess for them every day is International Rabbit Day. And that's what they deserve.

Have a great week!

Cute Overload - Mein Name ist Hase.

Hallo meine Lieben,

I have a big problem today. I can't write. I have no idea why. Everything I write down sounds absolutely stupid. That's why I decided to spare you from my uncreative talking and show you some fantastic pictures of two even more fantastic bunnies.
Sounds good?
I hope to come up with some better ideas in the next days! Maybe it's because I am nervous today. Germany will play against Italy in the semi-final of the European Championships and we have to win! I predict that Germany will win 3:0 and Mario Gomez will score twice.

So, here are the bunnies.

By the way, you can see the Crazy cat lady edition of my cute overload post here.

Tiffie eating his favorite food. They both love to eat but Finnie would win every eating contest. You can see that he loves to eat.

I think Findus hates taking pictures that's why I don't have that many. But I think this one is pretty cool. He always sleeps in a cat bed by the way. And he doesn't care if a cat is already in there. He's not afraid at all and it looks very funny when he scares the cats away.

They don't always like each other but sometimes they have their cuddly five minutes.

Sorry for the quality but this picture is so funny that I had to share it. Tiffie loves to roll around.

Very photogenic bunny. They are both 3 years old by the way. I rescued them from the animal shelter. They were both very sick and they had some very hard weeks back then. But I am thankful that they are healthy and happy now!

Lazy bunny! And he is ticklish. Very entertaining.

As you can see I am a crazy cat and bunny lady. I hope the post wasn't too boring.
Have a wonderful Thursday and keep your fingers crossed for the Deutsche Nationalmannschaft!

A birthday, my week and Irish blood, English heart.

Hallo Ihr Lieben,

today is a very special day!!! Taaaaaa-daaaaaa...........

It is Findus' 3rd birthday!!!!!!!! Happy happy Birthday to my lovely bunny! Thank you for always making me smile, thank you for being so funny, thank you for being such a fighter, thank you for beating the stupid disease, thank you for being such an enrichment to my life! I am so happy that you are my bunny! I love you, Finnie!

My week. In brief.

|seen|  a couple of Breaking Bad episodes, the season finale of Castle (finally!), Don't trust the bitch in Apartment 23, Girls, Community, Modern Family, Tschernobyl Diaries (stupid story, interesting location, completely predictable)
|read| Yrsa Sigurðardóttir, university stuff
|listened to| Die Drei Fragezeichen, Oasis, Suede, Kula Shaker
|done| translations, university stuff, going to the bookstore, going to the movies, having dinner with my sister-in-law, grocery shopping
|eaten| Quesadillas with tofu, red peppers and mushrooms, pasta, carrots, cucumber, strawberries, grapes, salad
|drunk| ice tea and beer.
|thought| why is it always so cold in American restaurants and movie theaters?
|annoyed| the usual. bad drivers and all the bad things that happen in this world.
|enjoyed| spending many hours in a book store together with a cat.
|bought| lots of books, Dr. Pepper, beer, birthday present for my sister-in-law.
|astonished| isn't it weird that 99% of American bikers don't wear a helmet. I have seen one guy without helmet and without shirt. Not dangerous at all.
|clicked| blogs, amazon, beauty sites, animal rescue stories.

You all know that I like beer. You should all check out Kari's post about Bitburger. She blogs over at Life on Madison and I immediately knew that we would be friends! She and her husband Brian love beer to and he even brews his own beer! How amazing is that? She had such a wonderful wedding, the pictures are incredible. and I really wish that I will have the chance to taste their beer someday! Kari, you are wonderful!

My song of the day is "Irish blood, English heart" by Morrissey.
I am neither Irish nor English but I would love to live on a farm in Ireland someday. With lots of animals. And the song is really really good.

Have a wonderful week!!!

Hoch sollst Du leben....dreimal hoch!

Dear Tiffie,

Herzlichen Glückwunsch zum Geburtstag! Happy birthday to a wonderful bunny! Thank you so much for always making me smile.  You are so funny, so precious, so special! You are always in my heart! I love you so much!

You moved in with me 3 years ago. You have been so sick, the vet has told me that you probably would not make it. We proved him wrong! You are a fighter, we won against the stupid disease. I am so proud of you!
You and Findus are such a great team. I am so happy that I adopted you. Have a wonderful birthday. Enjoy your bunny cookies!
I am sorry that I shocked you so much with my birthday song. I know I can't sing but it came from my heart!

Thank you for being such an amazing friend!
I love you!

Meet my furry friends....

Today I want you to meet my pets: The two cats Lumpi and Tiger. They are brothers and the cuddliest cats I have ever seen. I could tell you stories.....:) And the two bunnies Tiffie and Findus. I have kind of rescued all of them. My former landlord wanted to give the cats away to the shelter because he had 'no use' for them. So they moved in with me back in 2007. The bunnies were really really sick when I started to take care of them. They were only a couple of weeks old and both had a really bad infection. The vet said that she doesn't think they have a chance to survive but they are almost 3 years old and very happy bunnies now.

So please have a look:
This is Tiger. He loves to cuddle, especially with the bunnies. Which is very surprising because I thought they would hate each other. He also loves to sleep on my stomach. For hours.

This is Lumpi. He and Tiger are brothers. He loves to talk and behaves like a dog. He is very good at fetching. Believe it or not.

Meet Tiffie. He is 3 weeks older than Findus and he needs to get his teeth cut every 6 weeks. Unfortunately he can't wear braces.

This is Findus. He loves to eat. A lot.

Last but not least: This is Jerry, my Dad's cat. She loves to sleep. As you can see: She doesn't like photos.

Do you have any pets?
