Random Thursday. Beaches, rustic, cabins or cities?

Hallo meine Lieben,

it's Thursday already which is not only the birthday of my mother-in-law but also time for another Random Thursday post.

And here's the topic.

I love traveling as you probably know. And I am pretty much open to anything but I have to admit that I have never been on a classic beach vacation. I don't know why. Not that I don't want to, it just never happened. I guess I am more the "explorer" kind of person. So when I travel to a place then I want to see as much as possible and not just spend the time at the beach.

I am not sure that traveler type I am exactly. I love to discover new cities but I also want to see the area around. I want to meet the local people, eat some local food, see the nature, go to all the museums, see the touristy spots, try all the restaurants, buy some souvenirs, see all the shops they have....
I want to see it all. Which is why I always buy tons of traveling books before my vacation to make sure that I don't miss anything.

On top of my traveling bucket list right now are Ireland, Iceland, Christmas Island, India, Norway....oh, and many many more.

I guess now I should share some impressions of my recent travels with you....

In Bruges, 2011

Canyonlands National Park, Utah, 2011

Venice, 2010

Las Vegas, 2013

Mesa Verde National Park, Colorado, 2011

I had to crawl through this tiny hole in a cliff dwelling. I enjoyed it a lot, even with a kidney infection.

Zaleski State Park, Ohio, 2011

That is how you look after a 3 day backpacking trip and no shower.

What kind of traveler are you? What is your favorite vacation spot? What's your dream vacation?

  1. Hi there!
    I LOVE your pictures!
Well, I love to see things, while I travel. I was lucky enough to see a lot of things in Ireland and I would prefer a city trip to a beach vacation. I love to take pictures, doing the classic sight seeing stuff, and I love to go to a museum or other things like that.

So, I am pretty excited to see all the different museums & exhibitions in Stockholm! :-)

Have a great Thursday and weekend!

  3. Oh dear God, I would DIE if I had to climb through a tiny hole to get into that cliff dwelling!! I hate small spaces. You're lucky you've gotten to travel so much, it looks like you've had a ton of fun! I agree a classic beach vacation is not really my thing--unless I had shade and a stack of books, and then maybe I could stay put for a day!

    1. The crawling was fine, at least there was no water. :)
We really had some great vacations! My best friend Julia lived in Venice for a while so I was able to visit her there a couple of times! Flights can be really cheap in Europe!
I guess I could stay one day on a beach with a book but not a whole vacation! :)

  4. Oh, what lovely adventures!!

My travels are all about food, architecture, art, culture and history... I don´t do the classic beach thing either. If I want to sit around feeling hot I will go to a sauna!!!

  6. OH my gosh. I've done that exact shot at Canyonlands and my knees were shaking. I HATE heights. As soon as he took the shot, I crouched down and crawled on my hands and knees off the arch. I am SUCH a chicken.

Right there with ya on the beach thing. I LOVE the beach but like to explore the shores. Not sit on a beach towel all day getting sweaty and full of skin cancer.

    1. I love that you have done the same thing! And you are right, it was pretty intimidating to get up there!

I agree, sitting on a towel all day long is not my thing either. But beaches are awesome!

  9. The photo of you in Venice is amazing!
I cannot believe you went cavorting through caves with a kidney infection! Those things are rough.
I'm a weekend city break sort of traveler. 3 days and nights to an explore is perfect for me :)

    1. Thanks, I love that picture too! My friend Julia lived in this house for a while and it has the most amazing huge terrace I have ever seen. Right on the canal grande. Angelina Jolie lived on the other side of the canal when they filmed The Tourist. Julia has even seen Brad Pitt!

Well, I got that stupid kidney infection during the trip and I did not want to ruin it so I tried to do everything I can. But I was sick for 4 weeks after the trip. I was a little stupid.

And I love those city break kind of trips too!

  11. I tend to travel to cities, but I do love going to the beach. I miss being able to just pop over to the beach for an afternoon or evening like I used to in Florida.

  13. I have friends who come down to Florida from New York each Jnuary and they literally sit on the beach ALL day except for lunch and dinner breaks. I honestly couldn't imagine. I enjoy an hour or two sitting on the beach and going swimming but longer than that I can't do. I'd rather go around exploring or out on a boat fishing or something!

    1. Yeah, that is totally how I feel about this too. I mean, it must be so boring to do that all day long, your whole vacation!

  14. not much into traveling although I always want to visit Rome where they filmed the movie 'Roman Holiday' with Audrey Hepburn, if you have seen the movie, it is the place where there is a long flight of stairs. I do not know the name though.

hope you have a sweet day.
