Five Things. Vegan addictions, books and some bad news.

Hallo meine Lieben,

happy (rainy) weekend! I hope you are all doing great. What plans do you have?
Please check out my friend Celeste's Five Things as well. She rocks!

1. Books in general.

I realize every day that books make me so unbelievably happy. Just thinking about all the books in this world makes me smile. Maybe that sounds stupid but that is how I feel.  Just got new reading material and can't wait to start! Thanks so much for making my day, Em!

2. Vegan whipped cream.

I wasn't even a huge fan of whipped cream before I went vegan but I discovered this in a store and had to try it and now I drink coffee with whipped cream or hot chocolate with whipped cream all the time. I even add some to my banana smoothie. I am a bit addicted.

3. This hand cream.

I have very dry skin so especially in fall/winter I use a lot of hand cream. I recently discovered this gem, it is vegan and smells like pomegranate. Perfect. Plus it is really effective and makes my hands feel so soft!

4. Some terrible news.

I got really sick and angry when I read the headline: "Spanish Senate declares bullfighting to be cultural patrimony". Yes, of course. That is what the world needs. More cruelty. Justified by declaring it a cultural patrimony. I think I have heard this excuse before. You can read more about it here.  Some idiot described bullfighting as "a national and popular art-form for excellence and a basis for the development of Spanish society." I would like to meet that sick guy.

5. Vegan cheese cake.

My next challenge. I want to bake a vegan cheese cake. I have always loved cheese cakes and that is one of the few things I miss. I really had no problems going vegan and I don't miss a lot of things but I would definitely love to eat some "cheese" cake again. Keep your fingers crossed!

Have a happy weekend!

  1. With your vegan whipped cream you are half way to vegan cheese cake, just pick up some tofutti vegan cream cheese and stevia and you are all set for a no bake cheese cake :)

    You rock too!

  2. Hi Katrin!

interesting post! The hand cream look good! I hate bull fighting too, it is a cruel game that brings out the devil inside humans. Such games must be banned.

    1. Thank you so much, Ankita! The hand cream is really good! I definitely recommend it!
And yes, it really needs to be banned. I don't understand people who enjoy watching such cruel practices! I would like to stab them with some sticks too...

  3. 1. Love that quote!!! I should turn it into a piece of artwork to hang near the bookcases (of course).

    2. I'll have to look for that!

    3. Looks great! I've never tried the Weleda hand creams but I've heard good things about them. Right now I'm enjoying the one you sent me :)

    4. That is disgusting. At one time child brides were a "cultural thing". At one time human sacrifices were a "cultural thing". That doesn't make it okay!!

    5. Ooh...that should be my holiday project, too. Would go perfectly with the vegan roast I just picked up for Thanksgiving :)

    1. 1. Yeah, I would definitely love to have something like that in my library (which I want to have at some point in my life).

      2. It is really yummy! I started to mix it with my fruit and yogurt. So good.

      3. I am so glad you are enjoying it! :))

      4. Yeah, agreed. Just because it is a "cultural thing" it does not mean it is good.

      5. Oh wow, that sounds so yummy! Let me know how it was! And if you make a cheese cake I would love to see the recipe. :)

  5. I was vegan for about a year and really enjoyed it. I just found it too difficult to eat that way in Germany. Didn't you? I have tried that whipped cream and it's pretty good!

    1. No, I don't really find it difficult. I mean, of course it can be difficult when you are invited somewhere or go to a restaurant but I was always able to find something. I think that things are getting a lot better. It was harder a couple of years ago!
The whipped cream is really awesome. Glad you liked it too!

  6. So so sad that they want to continue bull fighting. It's a cruel thing and it bothers me that more people can't understand that.

    1. Yeah, it bothers me so much! It makes me sad and angry! How can people enjoy watching such a cruel practice?

  7. Love that saying - I want to hang it in my apartment :)
    Weleda products are all awesome!
Can't believe the Spanish headline. It makes me speechless :( And mad!
Oooh, let us know how the cheesecake turned out, please :)
Ich drück Dich noch Mal ganz fest!! :D

    1. It really is a great saying. :) I have tried a Weleda body lotion before and it was really good so I had to try the hand cream. Great products!
It makes me so sad and angry to read about this. Humans can be so stupid!
I will keep you updated about the cheesecake. :)
      Ich drück Dich ganz dolle!

  8. I completely agree about books (of course)! Glad to have brought s little smile to your life! That hand cream looks yummy. I'll have to look for it! Bull fighting is one of the things I can't even bear to think about. I secretly think it serves them right whenever the bull flips or even gores them. It's so inhumane. What's next? The return of public executions, virgin sacrifices and foot binding? There are plenty of cultural practices that should becone obsolete. This is one of them.

    1. You always make me smile, Em! You are so awesome and I am so glad that we have met!
I love hand creams a lot. You can never have enough hand creams. And books. :)
I totally agree on what you said about the bullfighting. Just because it is a tradition does not mean that it is okay to do it.

  11. I've used the Weleda Skin Food before.. and it's really good.. but ughhhhh it's so greasy and I can't stand greasy. (I can't stand any lotion, but I try anyway haha)

    1. I really need a good hand cream, especially in winter. My skin is so dry, I could not survive otherwise. But I agree about the greasy thing. Can't stand that either, especially with body lotions.
