Hoch sollst Du leben....dreimal hoch!

Dear Tiffie,

Herzlichen Glückwunsch zum Geburtstag! Happy birthday to a wonderful bunny! Thank you so much for always making me smile.  You are so funny, so precious, so special! You are always in my heart! I love you so much!

You moved in with me 3 years ago. You have been so sick, the vet has told me that you probably would not make it. We proved him wrong! You are a fighter, we won against the stupid disease. I am so proud of you!
You and Findus are such a great team. I am so happy that I adopted you. Have a wonderful birthday. Enjoy your bunny cookies!
I am sorry that I shocked you so much with my birthday song. I know I can't sing but it came from my heart!

Thank you for being such an amazing friend!
I love you!

30 days of books - part II

Hallo Ihr Lieben,

book time! I am linking up with sweet Vanisha from Vanisha's life in...Australia.

Day 5 - A book that makes you happy.

(Hmm, I can't share the same books with you in every post I write. So that's why I won't mention the Adrian Mole books again. But they do make me happy.)

Another book that makes me happy is "A long way down" by Nick Hornby.

I know. It is a book about suicide. But it's one of the funniest books I have ever read. Four people meet each other on New Year's Eve on the roof of a London house, well known as the last stop for those who want to end their lives. They decide to postpone their suicides until Valentine's day and form kind of a gang. The characters are hilarious. I don't want to tell you too much. Grab the book and give it a chance.

Day 6 - A book that makes you sad.

Diane Leigh - One at a time: a week in an American animal shelter.

I think I have already told you that I can't stand the thought of abused, sick or homeless animals. My heart dies a little bit every time I hear, read or see it. This book chronicles the stories of 75 animals who entered a typical American animal shelter during one week. It is not easy to read it. But it could change your life.

Day 7 - Most underrated book.

I agree with Vanisha here. It is "Veronica decides to die" by Paulo Coelho.

I think everybody should read this book. I loved it a lot. It is about 24 year old Veronica who lives in Slovenia. Her life seems to be perfect but one day she decides to die. She takes sleeping pills expecting never to wake up again. But she does. She wakes up in a mental clinic and people tell her that she has only a couple of days to live.
It is a book about people who do not fit into a pattern, people who are not considered as normal by society. The books covers so many topics and it is really hard to stop reading once you started.

Day 8 - Most overrated book.

This is what amazon says about the book:

Fragments of a Great Secret have been found in the oral traditions, in literature, in religions and philosophies throughout the centuries. For the first time, all the pieces ofThe Secret come together in an incredible revelation that will be life-transforming for all who experience it.
In this book, you'll learn how to use The Secret in every aspect of your life -- money, health, relationships, happiness, and in every interaction you have in the world. You'll begin to understand the hidden, untapped power that's within you, and this revelation can bring joy to every aspect of your life.

Hmm. It was not an incredible revelation to me. It wasn't life-transforming. But maybe I experienced it in the wrong way. Maybe I should give it another try. Do you guys have any experiences with this book?

Have a lovely day!

Sunday confessions!

It's Sunday again! Time to link up with my favorite Alyx from Every day is a new adventure !!

1. I made cookies yesterday! Not for humans. They are for the bunnies. Tiffie's birthday will be on Tuesday. Yeah, I do things like that. And I have to say: they smell delicious. The ingredients are: bananas, kiwi, carrots and a nice grass mixture.

2. It is not much fun to watch a soccer game with me. I get really loud and angry and scream the whole time.

3. Once I forgot my wallet on the car roof after grocery shopping. I lost my keys while shopping at Ikea. I am too confused for this world.

4. I hate the glibbery stuff in tomatoes. So I always have to remove that before I eat the tomato.

5. If I were a boy my name would be Daniel.

Have a lovely Sunday!

Shoes from hell.

Hallo Ihr Lieben,

I have lots of shoes. Some people might say I have too many. But hey, I can't help myself. I need all of them. Over the last couple of months I have realized that Americans and Germans have a lot in common....but there are some differences when it comes to shoes.

Here are 3 examples that stand out the most to me.

1) Running shoes.

The name already says it. You wear them when you go out running. They are not made for things like shopping, going to a restaurant, to a museum, to your hair stylist etc. Okay, you might say that they are comfortable. But don't you agree that there are nice sneakers which look a looooot better? I mean, do running shoes really look good when you wear them to a jeans or even a dress? In my opinion NO. But I am a German. So maybe I am wrong. 311 million Americans can't be wrong. I guess. It is just hard for me to understand that you actually wear them when you don't run. Maybe people just want to be prepared for an exceptional situation. You never know when you have to run. Your life could be in danger. But again, you could just wear sneakers. You can run with them too. I have never seen people wearing running shoes outside of a forest, a stadium or things like that in Germany. I have one pair of running shoes. So I wear them maybe once a year. I guess an average American has at least 5 pairs of them. David and I have talked about the topic a lot. He can't understand my problem. I guess no American can.

2) Flip Flops in February.

It was February when I flew to America for the first time. I wore boots, a winter coat, a scarf, gloves etc. But the first thing I saw at the American airport when I arrived was lots of Americans in Flip Flops. It was freezing cold outside. So cold that I thought they would get frostbite on their toes. I was glad that I had my warm socks and boots. But 3 out of 5 people at the airport were barefoot. And they have to leave the building at some point. So I just didn't get it.
Is there a reason that I can't see? Don't you get cold feet? If not: how do you do it? Help me! I would love to be able to wear summer shoes in winter. That would make me look really bad ass.

3) Plateau Flip Flops

I have to admit: they are my shoe nightmare! Really. They just freak me out because they are so unbelievably ugly. Yeah, everybody has a different taste and that's great. And I am a very open and understanding person. But I just can't understand why you would spend money on these shoes. So please, destroy all of them and never let me see them again. Even Adidas sandals combined with white socks look better. Kind of.
I am not sure if they exist outside of America. I have never seen then anywhere else. Which was kind of nice.
(I apology ifanybody feels offended by me. This is just my opinion. And I like making fun of things. Lots of Germans definitely have a really bad taste too. So please feel free to make fun of all the odd Germans. We can take it.)

Which shoes do you hate?
Have a lovely weekend!

Book club!

Hallo Ihr Lieben,

it's book club Friday again and I am linking up with Heather from Blonde...Undercover Blonde! Yay!

A couple of days ago I have seen a book in a book store that immediately caught my attention. The title just sounds absolutely great and after reading the blurb I brought it to the checkout. I will have a long flight next week so I wanted to save it until then but I had to start reading it.

The book is called
The 100-year-old man who climbed out the window and disappeared by Jonas Jonasson.

After a long and eventful life Allan Carlsson ends up in a nursing home. He believes that this is his last stop.
But there is one problem: He is still in good health, no death in sight. So on his 100th birthday he decides to leave the nursing home because he is not in the mood for a big celebration. So he climbs out of the window in his slippers and embarks on an unbelievable, hilarious and unexpected journey which includes a suitcase full of money, an elephant, unpleasant criminals and lots more.

It is the adventure of a lifetime but Allan's life was not like anybody else's life. He has witnessed some of the most important events of the twentieth century. And he even played a key role in them...
He had some interesting experiences with Mao, Stalin, Churchill, de Gaulle and others....

Please be aware: Once you started to read it you just can't stop.

Have a lovely Friday!

Suppenkasper.

Hallo Ihr Lieben,

I love to cook. And to eat. A lot. So I thought it would be nice to share one of my favorite recipes with you. I got it from one of my best friends Julia. I have known her my whole life and she is an awesome cook! And person.

I have to admit that I don't use recipes most of the time. I just mix things that might taste good together.
But cooking is one of the things I like to do and that's why I want to share it with you.

I am talking about red lentil soup with coconut milk and chili.

And here is what you need (for a big pot).

2 cans of sliced tomatoes.
garlic
1 can of coconut milk
200 grams of red lentils
600 ml of vegetable stock
salt, pepper, chili, curry
( i always add lots of other spices but there is no rule)

First, you roast the garlic in a pan for a little bit.
Add the lentils and the vegetable stock and cook it for 20 minutes. The lentils should be done then.
Add the sliced tomatoes and cook it for a while. Add as many spices as you want. For me curry is very important because it is one of my favorite spices. But I also need lots of pepper. As a German you would add some Maggi.

So add add add spices until it is really spicy. It will lose some of its taste when you add the coconut milk. That's the next step.
And then it's ready to eat. Enjoy.

That's the Suppenkasper by the way. He never eats his soup.

What is your favorite recipe? Do you like to cook?
