30 days of books - part II

Hallo Ihr Lieben,

book time! I am linking up with sweet Vanisha from Vanisha's life in...Australia.

Day 5 - A book that makes you happy.

(Hmm, I can't share the same books with you in every post I write. So that's why I won't mention the Adrian Mole books again. But they do make me happy.)

Another book that makes me happy is "A long way down" by Nick Hornby.

I know. It is a book about suicide. But it's one of the funniest books I have ever read. Four people meet each other on New Year's Eve on the roof of a London house, well known as the last stop for those who want to end their lives. They decide to postpone their suicides until Valentine's day and form kind of a gang. The characters are hilarious. I don't want to tell you too much. Grab the book and give it a chance.

Day 6 - A book that makes you sad.

Diane Leigh - One at a time: a week in an American animal shelter.

I think I have already told you that I can't stand the thought of abused, sick or homeless animals. My heart dies a little bit every time I hear, read or see it. This book chronicles the stories of 75 animals who entered a typical American animal shelter during one week. It is not easy to read it. But it could change your life.

Day 7 - Most underrated book.

I agree with Vanisha here. It is "Veronica decides to die" by Paulo Coelho.

I think everybody should read this book. I loved it a lot. It is about 24 year old Veronica who lives in Slovenia. Her life seems to be perfect but one day she decides to die. She takes sleeping pills expecting never to wake up again. But she does. She wakes up in a mental clinic and people tell her that she has only a couple of days to live.
It is a book about people who do not fit into a pattern, people who are not considered as normal by society. The books covers so many topics and it is really hard to stop reading once you started.

Day 8 - Most overrated book.

This is what amazon says about the book:

Fragments of a Great Secret have been found in the oral traditions, in literature, in religions and philosophies throughout the centuries. For the first time, all the pieces ofThe Secret come together in an incredible revelation that will be life-transforming for all who experience it.
In this book, you'll learn how to use The Secret in every aspect of your life -- money, health, relationships, happiness, and in every interaction you have in the world. You'll begin to understand the hidden, untapped power that's within you, and this revelation can bring joy to every aspect of your life.

Hmm. It was not an incredible revelation to me. It wasn't life-transforming. But maybe I experienced it in the wrong way. Maybe I should give it another try. Do you guys have any experiences with this book?

Have a lovely day!

  1. I might have to give some of these books a try - they all look pretty good!

And couchsurfing - I've never done it, but I've done a TON of research on it and have heard great things. I was going to do it here in a couple of weeks, but we are having to go home early, so I won't get the chance to do it, but yeah, I think it's a great way to travel!
